People think I'm older than I actually am

As far as I can remember, people on the Internet have thought that I was at least 20 years old. There’s a few reasons for this:

  1. I have a pretty deep voice
  2. I’m apparently “more knowledgeable” than people my age
  3. I just don’t seem 15

They’re pretty valid reasons, but sometimes it’s just baffling. In one instance
I had someone who had wanted me to enter into a contract with them. I had told them that I wasn’t 18 and couldn’t be legally bound to the contract.

At that point they hadn’t believed me at all, I couldn’t really prove that was I was younger, and I am sure as hell not sending a picture of my birth certificate to some random on the Internet.

I tried as much as I could to convince them that I really was 15, but they still
stuck to the main points that I had a deep voice and was “more knowledgeable” than people my age were supposed to be.

The former statement is pretty sensible, yeah, but the latter? I have a few issues with that. Firstly, we’re in a time where information is readily available anywhere for free and in various formats. I think the reason why the stereotype around the relation to children and less knowledge is because back then you had to go to school in order to get the information and instruction. Like I said, today that’s not really a requirement, you can do a quick Google search and you have hundreds of thousands of results regarding your topic.

I think it’s irrational to some degree for people to assume that just because you’re younger that you must definitely have less knowledge. Personally, I’ve tried to change that prejudice into a, in my opinion, more sensible assumption that because they younger they have less experience. For the most part this is true, but there are of course circumstances where this isn’t.

Overall, maybe we shouldn’t assume. We should disregard any prejudice we have against a person and consider them with an open mind. We would have a much better social system and many issues that plague our society today would be solved.

Of course, not everything is that simple. The psychology of society is very complex and perhaps something that needs to evolve over time. Hopefully in the future we can have a more open minded society, one that has no prejudice, one that is unifying.

Anyway, I got a bit off topic, but a rant is a rant. Thanks for reading.
